He's joined a start-up

Thanks due to all those who helped him (and in the process, me too!)
The 26 year old - he's at a start-up now.
He wants to add value to the company and its customers.
I told him that's a lot of bling and blah - management speakeasy (cynical old me) that everyone spouts.

But he insists:
If I have to do this add value then how should I approach my work - on a practical, day-to-day basis. How should I interact with boss and colleagues and subordinates (not that he has any currently). What should be my approach to the daily issues, stress, problems at office?

I'm thinking... I never had these questions when I started off in life... then I thought of putting it up here on this blog for maybe... some kind soul out there can help?
