Lesson Interrupted

I'm the enthusiastic teacher - after all I have all the time in the world, as my student told me.
But he doesn't (have all the time that is) - he's got to handle the constraints of his work ecosystem. Because after all I teach him in his working hours.
'The rat and the cat...' I started.
Mnnto's body stiffened and before I could add anything , he had grabbed the notebook and slid it inside his shirt in the manner of adolescents hiding objectionable stuff from their parents.
I looked up.
The security supervisor was on his rounds. He came up and asked me, 'Everything all fine, sir?'
And Munto preempted me by, 'Yes, yes, Sahib stopped only to say hello.'
Then the supervisor stayed on to speak to Munto and I had to slide away, much to my student's relief.
I must take it in my stride, I told myself. I can't let the ego of a teacher get ahead.
